May Neighbors

We had one new neighbor in May. However, Memorial Day is the unofficial start of boating season so we expect to see many more neighbors in the next few months.

April Neighbors

Sorry for the slight delay in posting. We had only one new neighbor in April 2015:
"Skookum" - Carver 39 Motoryacht
They are fellow liveaboards!

The season is ramping up. There are currently five open slips on our dock. Who is coming to visit?

November Neighbors

Whereas we still took a trip last weekend, many of our weekend warrior friends are already "on the hard" for the winter so it's a special treat to get a new neighbor in November.

This sailboat plans to be with us all winter:
"Twelfth Night"
It's a safe bet to say that this will be the last Neighbor posting before next March or April, however, I will be thrilled to be proven wrong.

September Neighbors

Thanks to the Star-Spangled Spectacular and TrawlerFest we had many new neighbors in September. But first, I have to pay respects to an old girl that was towed away from the marina this month.
The Impulsive Dreamer III has been on H dock since long before we arrived. I hear she was really lovely at one point. I hope that someone saves her before she meets her final end.

And here is the line-up of the boats that joined us this past month.
"Miss Bay Haven" - Sundancer 370
"Bullfrog" - Sundancer 370
"Opus" - Bertram 42
"Curragh D IV" - Silverton 43 Sport Bridge
This couple has owned this beauty for only 3 weeks. They upgraded from a 20 foot boat.
Congratulations to them!
"Walkabout" - Regal 3880

"Two Can Do" - Chris Craft

"Chasing Sunset" - SeaRay 400
"Xiao Ji" - SeaRay
'Sandpiper" - Shannon
"SnowBird" - Swift Trawler 42

June Neighbors

We had one new neighbor in the month of June:
Plan "B"
I haven't had a chance to ask yet but I wonder if there was/is a Plan "C."

I'm predicting a full dock by the end of the week for the big fireworks display. Keep tuned for the July neighbors post at the end of the month.

May Neighbors

The marina has definitely come back to life for the (soon-to-be-official) summer. Here is the first monthly neighbor round-up for this season.
"Margaret Ann" - Bayliner 4550
"Selkie"
This last boat isn't on our dock but it is a fun addition to the marina. I simply had to post pictures.

We're so cool we use tires for fenders.
Seriously? A full size grill on a boat? Sign me up!
Can't you picture a hammock on the back deck?

November Neighbors

It's the time of year when boats are finding their winter homes -- either on land or in a slip. It looks like our November neighbors are here for the long haul.

You may recognize this boat from a previous post. Grand Passion is here for the winter and we are excited to have friends so close by.
"Grand Passion" - Ocean 44
No, you aren't seeing double. We have two of the same model sailboat directly across from each other on the dock.
The first one arrived in October. This is the more recent addition.
Anybody want to place bets on the possibility of anyone new arriving before next spring?

October Neighbors

I just signed us up for winter water which is a sure sign that the boating season is winding down. Nevertheless, we did have a couple new neighbors in October.
"Freestyle"
This neighbor was towed in. Haven't had a chance to talk to them yet so I don't know the circumstances.

It needs a little work but check out the cool detailing on the bow of the sailboat.

September Neighbors

What? Two posts in two days? Well, many of my local friends have commented on how much they like the neighbor posts so here's the September list.

Because of Trawler Fest and MTOA, many of these boats have stayed for a few weeks and we've had the opportunity to meet new people. For me, it's been reminiscent of the friends one meets at an all-inclusive resort -- You spend a lot of time together in a short time period -- Sometimes you make life-long friends, sometimes you just enjoy the company and move on. Either way, it's always fun!
"Just One More" - Cruisers 455 (We had strongly considered this style boat in our live-aboard search.)
"Resurgent" - DeFever (This couple normally docks in Washington, DC, have been our neighbor for a couple weeks, and are attending MTOA.)
"Panchita' - Egg Harbor (This couple has spent the last six year cruising. They started in California and have been through the Panama Canal. When I grow up, can I be them?)
"Aisling" - Gulf Star (Our first repeat neighbors in Harborview.)
"Twilight Star" - Histar
"Step Two" - Baymar 46
"Kindred Spirit III"
"Moon Dance" - Ocean (Our new permanent neighbor.)
Don't forget about our biggest neighbor, the SS John W. Brown. I didn't get to "meet" them but it was a treat.

A Surprise Neighbor -- the SS John W. Brown

After returning from a quick run this morning, I saw an unexpected site -- the SS John W. Brown was docking next to Harborview. We pass by this historic ship all the time as we leave the harbor but never expected to see it on our side of the city. According to the Harborview Marina website calendar of events, the John Brown is being used as a "primary training facility during Trawler Fest and Trawler Fest University" which means it will be here all week.

Take a look at this historic World War II ship:
Her length is 441 feet, 7 inches.
Her beam is 57 feet.
Two tug boats helped maneuver her onto the seawall in front of Little Havana:

Multiple people were needed to handle each line:
Look at the size of the cleat and line needed to hold her in place. I added my foot into the picture for scale:
For even more perspective, here is a picture of one of the cleats and lines holding our boat in place:
I could get accustomed to this view from my aft deck:
And from the top of my dock:
And lastly from the main dock (the arrow points to Luv'n Life IV):

August Neighbors

Our August neighbors included friends that came to spend the night at our marina. (How often to do friends visit you and bring their own bed, sheets, and bathroom?)

"Durrano" - SeaRay 320 Sundancer
SeaRay 350 Sundancer (Soon to have a really awesome name.)
"Vida Boa" - Carver 350 Mariner
How about these other beauties that spent the night on our dock?
"AfterMath" - Nordic Tug 42
"Black Pearl" - SeaRay 300 Sundancer
Unnamed - Maxim 4100
"Excess in Moderation" - SeaRay 480
"Grillin & Chillin" - Chris Craft
"Roughin' It Smoothly" - Luhrs 41 Convertible
"Triple Play"
